RHS Dance Classes Seeking Donations

Hello!

The RHS Advanced Dance Classes are hosting the first ever Fall Festival at Rogers High School on Sunday, October 29 from 11:00am - 5:00pm! We are celebrating our Hispanic heritage in Rogers by hosting this event; we will have different Latin dances performed by current and former dancers, food for purchase, and entertainment for children.

As for donations, we are still looking for local businesses to donate any type of food that we can sell. Currently, we have tamales, enchiladas, posole, churros, some desserts (cupcakes, fresas con crema, candy), and aguas de frutas. Additionally, we could use bottled water, canned coke products, gloves for serving food, plates, and silverware. Please see the donation request letters below for more information.

Thank you for your time and support of our program!

Arkansas Dance Programs on the Rise - Antoinette Grajeda

Thank you so much to Antoinette Grajeda, Ozarks at Large, and KUAF for the wonderful story about the growth of dance in Arkansas! We were so honored to be featured!

Elizabeth White leads a group of students in a series of exercises Sept. 26 at Rogers High School.

Thank you RPEF!

Thanks to the Rogers Public Education Foundation and some proceeds from our spring dance recital, Under the Lights, we were able to purchase these mats, blocks and straps so that every dancer can stretch to their individual flexibility level! We are so thankful for all that the RPEF does for our program and for so many others in Rogers. It's a great day to be a Mountie! :)

Computer Lab: Digital Portfolios

Welcome back for another year of Dance and keeping track of your digital portfolios. This is usually an assignment that holds some of us back from having an A in this class, so let's make this a priority this year!

Dance I: You can find your digital portfolio by going to Google Classroom and signing up for Dance I with the code g2rrvm

  • Complete survey in Google Classroom.
  • Find your digital portfolio.
    • Create collage on first slide.
    • Only keep your class mission statement
    • Create three goals for this upcoming year

Advanced Dance: You can sign up for the Advanced Dance Google Classroom with the code muen89n

  • Find your portfolio from last year (the last year you were in Dance)
    • Make sure first slide has 20-25 images that still represent you.
    • Update table of contents; put my new blog address on this slide (rpsardance.blogspot.com)
    • Make your years in Dance clearly separate. Consider changing the background color or putting in a large title slide between each year.
    • Find your class's mission statement in this Google slide and paste it to your portfolio.
    • Create three goals for this upcoming year AND explain how you are going to achieve each. It could be a goal that you are still working on from last year.
_______________________________________________________________________________

Everyone: Once you're done with your portfolio, you can begin working on your head shot. Here is my example, and check out the guidelines and rubric!

Consider making an account on Canva.com for a design like mine, or keep it simple with Google Slides.

Dance I Class Attire

Hello!

This year, we will be changing up our daily dress requirements just a little bit. Dance I students will be wearing a black leotard, black tights or leggings, and nude jazz shoes. Here is the letter that will be sent home during the second week of school regarding attire. Students may choose three options for obtaining their in-class dance materials:

  1. Order materials from their instructor. If you choose this option, you must bring at least 20% of your total payment by Friday, September 1.
  2. You may purchase the materials on your own. If ordering online, please be sure to review sizing guidelines as dance clothes are sized very differently from street clothes and shoes.
  3. You may borrow materials from me for the year. There is a $10 rental/cleaning fee.

$13.00
$6.00
$17.00
Additionally, you can purchase a ballet skirt to provide a little more coverage.

Happy Summer and Week 1 Training

Happy summer, dancers! We did it; we made it through another year, and now it is time for some relaxation! Not too much relaxation, though!

The first couple of weeks or school are usually spent in agony after not stretching for the entirety of summer. We want to change that this summer! Some of my upcoming Dance III students put together a calendar of stretches and skills for us to work on for 12 weeks this summer. Below is a video of our first week, which focuses on basic stretching; this should be an easy way to start!

I would recommend doing this 10 minute video 2-3 times this week and any other time you feel like your hips and back need a little stretching.

Library Week: Portfolios and Dance Genre Project

Welcome back to the lab! It's been awhile!
- Log into Google Chrome and your RPS30 account

Portfolio
We're adding our recital videos and quarter four splits pictures. In addition, I want you to create a reflection slide about your year in Dance. Use pictures and a few words to summarize what you've enjoyed and how you've grown.

You'll have to add the slides on yourself!
Recital Videos by Class
For each video, add a reflection slide about the preparation process for that dance, your committment, and your evaluation of the final product.
Quarter 4 Splits Pictures
Add a reflection slide about how your flexibility has or has not progressed throughout the year(s). Dance III, find your first ever round of splits pics and post with your best looking splits pics. Reflect on your progress.
2017 Reflection Slide
Create a slide of mainly pictures about your favorite parts of the class this year. You can add some words if it needs explanation. :)

Dance Genre Project (For Dance I and II)

  5. Share the slideshow with me: ewhite@rps30.k12.ar.us

Volunteers Needed!

If you are a parent, guardian, student, or friend of a dancer, please consider volunteering! Below is a link to the sign up form and a list of duties we need volunteers for!

Link to volunteer sign up: https://goo.gl/gZ3zf6

Backstage stagehand: One to two people who can help back stage keeping students quiet in the wings, telling students which number is next, and helping the stage manager.

Class mom/dad: Each class will need a parent/guardian to help chaperone. You'll be given some dance necessities like bobby pins, ponytail holders, bandaids, etc. Students will come to you with those needs. You may be asked to hold on to cell phones while dancers are performing.

Cook: Cook or bring an item for dinner. We're feeding around 200 people. so we're looking to do a really big buffet with lots of options for students!

Makeup/Hair: On both days, students will need help to prepare their hair and makeup. Students will have hair styles that range from french braids to ponytails, and the makeup will be dramatic for the stage.

Security: One to two adults per class will watch over the belongings of dancers while they are rehearsing and performing. These adults will also make sure that girls and boys stay out of each other's changing areas.

Makeup/Hair: On both days, students will need help to prepare their hair and makeup. Students will have hair styles that range from french braids to ponytails, and the makeup will be dramatic for the stage.

Program passer outer: On both days, we'll need some students who can help pass out programs to audience members as they enter.

Runner: There will be some random things that Mrs. White needs done throughout the day. This could be recording rehearsals, hanging up signs, making posters, cleaning backstage areas, and who knows what else.

Ticket salesperson: Sell tickets one hour before and 15 minutes into the show. It's preferable that we have at least one person who speaks Spanish at the ticket table.

Ticket takers: On both days, we'll need some students who can take tickets at the door and make sure that all audience members have unused tickets.

Fundraising for our Spring Recital

Hello!

We are now starting to fundraise for our spring recital, Under the Lights! We are so excited to have everyone come and see us on Saturday, April 8 at 7:00pm and Sunday, April 9 at 2:00pm at the Rogers High School Auditorium at 2300 S. Dixieland Road.

Besides selling tickets for our recital (which will begin in March), our main method of raising money is to sell advertisements in our program. Every audience member will receive a program upon entering the auditorium; last year, there were over 1,000 audience members who saw all of the businesses who supported our dancers!

Here are our programs from the past three years!
2016 Program
2015 Program
2014 Program

If you would like to donate, we have several options for family, friends and businesses that range
from $5 to $200. Of course, you are welcome to donate whatever amount is good for you!

Here is a paper form that you could print and mail in, or if you would rather complete the form online and mail in your payment, you can do that by filling out the survey below!

Forms and monies are due Friday, March 17! Thank you in advance!
