Raising the Barre (2014) |
The Rogers Public Schools Dance program began in 2013 with about 70 students. In 2015, we started the year with 161 students enrolled in the class! Part of the reason we've had tremendous growth in such a short time is the supportive environment that we have built each year. Dance is more than just a class; it's a family.
This two-semester course is designed for all high school boys and girls with or without dance experience. Theatre Dance satisfies the .5 fine arts credit and provides .5 elective credit.
Instructors
Liz White
Liz started dancing at the age of two at a dance studio in North Little Rock. During her 13 years with the studio, she learned ballet, tap, jazz, musical theatre, pointe, clogging, lyrical and various styles of dance. Liz continued learning and performing throughout high school with the NLRHS Dance Troupe.
While in college at the University of Central Arkansas, Liz studied Communication and Spanish and taught part time at Danceworks Studio in Maumelle. While at UCA, Liz volunteered her time choreographing dances for organizations including Alpha SIgma Alpha and the Boys and Girls Club. She continued her education at the University of Arkansas earning her M.A. in Communication and M.A.T. in Secondary Education. Once Liz moved to Northwest Arkansas, she worked as an instructor at the Academy of Dance in Springdale teaching students ages 18 months to adults ballet, tap, and jazz.
Liz began teaching at Rogers High School in 2011 as a debate coach and oral communications teacher. In 2013, she created and started teaching Dance at both Rogers and Rogers Heritage High Schools. She now teaches Dance I-IV at RHS.

Beyond Words (2015) |
In this course, students will study various styles of dance, dance history, composition, choreography, kinesiology and nutrition. The purpose of Dance I-IV is to intellectually and physically engage students as they develop an aesthetic appreciation and technical proficiency of this fine art. This course is classified as a fine arts course instead of a physical education course due to the strong emphasis on the art versus the physicality of the discipline.
