Hello dancers!
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! I'm looking forward to working with each one of you this year!
Here are some notes for your sub this week; your long term substitute should be here later this week or early next week! :)
August 16 - First Day of School
- Schedule with links to videos
- 4th hour team building with Aileen, Lizzy, and Tram
August 17
- Here is a link to a slideshow to project for Dance classes and one for Personal Comm. Sign up for Google Classroom, Remind, and Follow along on Social Media (Dance I-IV students)
- Social Media for Dance students
- Instagram: @rogersdance
- Instagram: @nhsda.rogers
- Snapchat: rhsdancingdavis
- TikTok: rogersdance2013
- YouTube: RPS Dance
- Fill out this survey (link on Google Classroom > Classwork > Week 1 > Tuesday)
- If there is time in Personal Comm, please go over the Personal Comm Syllabus.
August 18
- Dance I-IV
- Syllabus Scavenger Hunt
- Please review the instructions on slides 6-7 before they get in groups.
- I've asked a teacher in my PLC to print some copies of the Scavenger Hunt form for you to give one to each group throughout the day.
- Please put them into groups instead of letting them choose their own groups.
- Answer any questions as best as you can, and ask them to be mindful of the time and when their class period ends. All submissions are due by midnight tomorrow.
- If there is extra time, review syllabus and submit parent form online. I can have the long-term sub print a paper copy of the parent form next week, but parents can fill them out online.
- Personal Communications
- Students will start working on the Who Am I? Presentation.
- Please watch the example and review the guidelines.
- Then, students can look at the outline on Thursday and visual on Friday in Google Classroom.
August 19
- Dance I-IV
- Mission Statement, Goals, Portfolio
- Dance II-IV
- Create class mission statement
- Give each student a notecard, post it note, or scrap of paper. Tell students to draw a line down the middle. On the left, have them write down three words that they want to describe this class. On the right, have them write down three words that they do not want to describe this class. After a minute, have students get in small groups of 3-5 (not the same groups as yesterday). Let them discuss for 3-5 minutes what they wrote down. Have them prioritize the top three words on each side of the line. With everyone listening, go around to each group and write down what they wrote on the Google Slide for their class. See which ones are repeated to see what's most important to students.
- Then, read some of the mission statements from the bulletin board from last year. Help students create a 1-2 sentence statement that they want to guide our learning in class this year. Please write that on the appropriate Google Slide.
- Keep this slide up when students start working on their portfolios, because they will need to type it on there.
- Find/Create Dance Portfolio
- These students have worked on the portfolio before (except for a few students who I haven't had before). Please ask the students who have never created a portfolio to create a Google Slide to share with me (elizabeth.white@rps30.k12.ar.us) and then follow the instructions for the rest of class.
- Those who have created a portfolio in the past should be able to find it in their Google Drive. If they difficulty locating it, they should search "dance portfolio" within their Google Drive. They can also search their trash.
- Have students:
- Add 4 slides to their portfolio
- A title slide with what level dance they're in
- Class Mission Statement slide
- Goals slide where they'll add 3 goals for this class this year
- Q1 Flexibility where they'll put their first round of splits pictures
- Dance I
- Create class mission statement (follow same instructions as Dance II-IV)
- Create portfolio
- Watch this video to introduce the portfolio. It's from last year, so the dates aren't updated, but the information is still relevant.
- They don't need to submit the portfolio.
- They should be able to type the Class Mission Statement after the first activity.
- They will be working on this Thursday-Friday.
- Personal Communications
- Students will continue working on the Who Am I? Presentation.
- The outline is due on Friday at midnight and the visual is due Sunday at midnight. Presentations begin on Monday.
August 20
- Great work yesterday with the Mission Statements yesterday! They were fantastic!

- Submit scavenger hunt pictures/videos
- If a student wasn't here Wednesday, they can join a group as they finish their scavenger hunt today.
- I am missing several groups' submissions. I will try to update the groups that I have received on Friday morning.

- Dance I Students can continue to add pictures to their first slide to make it like a collage (identical to what we're using in Personal Communications).
- Dance II-IV Students should have this completed unless they weren't here yesterday.
- If students who are finished with their assignments want to do Just Dance, they can project it and play via YouTube.
- Personal Communications
