Happy Thanksgiving! (Directions for Sub)

Today, you will not be dressing out! You will meet the sub in the dance studio to complete a worksheet. This worksheet:

  • is due at the end of the class period. Please turn in to the sub.
  • is to be completed with full and detailed sentences.
  • requires that you use your phone to find an appropriate dance video on YouTube.
Remember that if the note from the sub is negative, your class will not participate in the next food day. Please be kind and respectful.

Dance II
You may choose to either fill out the worksheet or dance with the following playlist. Please submit the worksheet at the end of class OR send me a reflection of how you and your class danced via Remind, Instagram or Snapchat.

Friday, November 4

Today, we will be meeting in the library lab to reflect on your first several weeks in Dance! What most people are missing are your splits pictures, so please find your class's folder of pictures below and paste yours on your portfolio.

These grades will be going into the gradebook during the second quarter, so please make sure that you have completed all of your assessments today.

Dance I - Review your checklist that I will pass out in class today. All of the highlighted areas need to be addressed. You can disregard Q2 Splits Pics reflection for now.

Dance II-III - I have gone through all of your portfolios and have inserted yellow slides for all of the assessments that you need to complete. Answer the questions and prepare to redo your Ballet Assessment in class on Monday. Each group should know exactly what needs to be focused on/practiced over the weekend.

We're Growing!

Since we're growing year by year, Tori and I have decided to make two instagram accounts for each school. You can see what's going on at RHHS and RHS by following us on Instagram; we'll still keep using the RPS Theatre Dance account for inspiration, recital news, and to highlight what's going on in the class!

Big Changes for RPS Dance!

I am so excited to announce three big changes for RPS Theatre Dance!
  1. Our name is changing from RPS Theatre Dance to RPS Dance. Keep your eyes on the blog, instagram, and twitter for any changes.
  2. RHS will have Dance III next year!
  3. We will have a second Dance teacher in Rogers Public Schools next year! Tori Randolph will take on Dance I-III at RHHS starting August 2016.

Welcome our new RHHS instructor, Tori Randolph!

Coach Randolph is the current head coach of the Sideline and Competition Dance teams at Heritage. She choreographs and cleans competition routines and prepares dancers for the sidelines at sporting events. She was trained in recreational tap, ballet, jazz, and tumbling classes until the age of 7,  and then focused solely on ballet. This love of ballet began at an early age and has been the coveted foundation of her success in dance. In high school she broke out of her drive for perfection in ballet and competed in the styles of jazz, hip hop, lyrical, modern, contemporary, and musical theater all over Arkansas and National Competitions. During this time, her solos and group routines placed in Top 10 Overalls at national and regional competitions throughout the US. Coach Randolph student-taught throughout her competitive years and joined the staff of Ms. Karen’s Dance Studio as an instructor and choreographer from 2009-2013. While teaching at Ms. Karen’s she also attained her degree at Harding University in Searcy, AR with a bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in Reading. Coach Randolph has been a 6th ELA teacher at a middle school in Rogers for the past two years, and is excited to be at Heritage High School full time this fall. Her passion for storytelling (through the written word and visual arts) combined with her commitment to excellence in technique is what she hopes to inspire and share with her students. She believes that the art of dance teaches us discipline while also giving us the freedom to discover and be proud of who we truly are. Dance is her first love and she cannot wait to share that love with HHS students!

We Made It: 2015-2016 Review

We've made it to summer! Without snow days, this year really flew by! Let's take a look at this year...

Last spring, we were honored with a grant from Rogers Public Education Fund for almost $2,000 to help develop a costume closet for our students. In September, we received our leotards, tights, ballet shoes, and ballet skirts so that we could begin practicing as dancers. Don't they look professional?
After we learned ballet skills and choreography, we moved into lyrical dance. Students were very engaged with this style of dance due to the focus on interpreting the words in each song. Their performances were stellar, and it was a great way to wrap up the fall semester!

In the spring, we focused on our April recital. Each class had at least one dance captain who choreographed and planned out a dance for their class. Our captains choreographed hip hop and lyrical numbers that really enhanced our show! Other numbers that graced our stage included musical theatre, bachata, modern, cumbia, jazz, pointe, and merengue. Check out the whole show from this year here!
Other highlights from the year include pep rally performances at both RHS and HHS! Our dancers were such great representatives of what we do in class. Additionally, this spring we were awarded two more grands from Rogers Public Education Fund: one to increase our dance closet and the other to purchase a MacBook for music editing! We are so thankful for all that they do for education in Rogers!

Mark your calendars for our 2017 recitals: APRIL 8 & 9, 2017! Enjoy your summer, and be ready for a fun year once we return in August!
