      9/10-9/11 Lab Instructions

      Hello!

Thanks to everyone who worked hard on Thursday! Remember that I can see all of the work that you do... or don't... complete. You will receive a large grade for your hard work! There's an additional slide added to the bottom of this blog post. Enjoy!

Please remember to head to the library for class on Thursday and Friday! You will be reflecting on your storytelling video and splits pictures. Check back on this blog both days to make sure that you have the most up to date information!

Please download and use Google Chrome!

Check to see if you have shared your portfolio with me. Thanks to those who shared yesterday! I'm still missing a few!

If you do not have a portfolio or do not remember how to access your portfolio, you should go back to the blog post from 8/24

If you do not have the following four slides complete, that's where you should start today. Directions for each of the four slides can also be found on the blog post from 8/24

      1. Collage of 20 images that represent who you are.
      2. Table of Contents
      3. Class Mission statement with dancer characteristics (found on blog post from 8/24)
      4. 3 individual goals with pictures to help visualize them
Slide 5. Storytelling Video (6th hour - skip for now)
      • Your group's storytelling video should be posted on your portfolio. If it is not on the correct number slide, you can move it around. To view your video, you'll need to click Present in the top right corner, and then you will push play. If it still doesn't work, reload and try again. If it still doesn't work, email me.
      • If you were not there, please skip down to the last bullet of this section to see your alternative assignment.
      • You will answer the following questions after watching your video (you can post these on a new slide, the same slide, or in the notes section of your portfolio):
        1. Provide a short description of the story that your group told through movement (3-5 sentences).
        2. What was your role in the group? Were you the leader, active participant, idea generator? Explain how your group worked together (3-5 sentences).
        3. How did your group use each element of dance (1 sentence each)?
          1. Body

        4. Which section or movement in the storytelling best demonstrated an aspect or part of the story? How (3-5 sentences)?
      • Alternative assignment if you did not participate in the storytelling video. Read this article and summarize it in 15-20 sentences.
Slide 6 or Slides 6-8 Splits Pics
      • Your splits pictures should be on your portfolio for class on Thursday or at the beginning of class on Friday. You may shrink these to all fit on one page or you may leave them on separate pages.
      • If you were not there/don't have your pictures posted, answer all of the questions that you can without the pictures.
      • You will answer the following questions after reviewing your pictures (you can post these on a new slide, the same slide, or in the notes section of your portfolio):
        1. Describe your current level of flexibility. Remember that flexibility isn't just about the splits; it could be about other muscles and areas of the body (2-3 sentences).
        2. Describe your favorite stretch and what areas of the body you feel that it is stretching. This could be something we have done in class or something else (2-3 sentences).
        3. What other parts of the body do you feel like need more focus for flexibility?
        4. How do you plan to continue to increase your flexibility throughout the school year?
      Slide 7 or Slide 9

      Dance Materials

      Hello!

On Thursday, August 20, Kat Barlow from the Dance and More Store in Johnson will come to our classes to fit students for dance apparel and shoes. Students will have a blank order form that Kat will fill out with the appropriate sizes; sizes for dance apparel vary greatly from regular clothing and shoes. Dance material for women consists of a black leotard, tan tights, and ballet shoes; optional items include a ballet skirt or jazz shorts. For men, dance material includes a white shirt, black shorts or pants, and black jazz shoes.

Students will take these forms home to parents and need to return the signed forms on Friday, August 21. If students do not return the order form, they will be responsible for obtaining their dance wear on their own time. The Dance and More Store offers Rogers Public Schools a great discount; however, students may purchase their materials from other vendors. At the bottom of the order form, you will find an area for parents to sign and mark if they would like to be considered for a scholarship. These partial and full scholarships will be reserved for students with a great need for monetary assistance. Priority will be given to students on free and reduced lunch.

Payment is not due until the materials come in; students will not receive their materials until they have paid. Students can bring cash or check (made payable to Dance and More Store) to Ms. Davis, or they can call the Dance and More Store to pay by credit card or PayPal. Any unpaid fees will be put on the student’s account to pay before they graduate.

Materials will be delivered to Rogers High School or Heritage High School and Ms. Davis will pass out the materials.

We will plan to start dressing out in our materials on Tuesday, September 8 or whenever the materials arrive!

Here is the blank order form (RHS will receive on Thursday // HHS received in class on Wednesday): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1b11SdG6EcnVdiq_93jX4AQfdxmelY-hq3xW50Xlix6o/edit?usp=sharing

      _____________________________________________________________________________

      ¡Hola!

      End of Year Slide

We've almost made it through our second year of Theatre Dance! How exciting!

Before you go, let's take another look at our portfolios. Remember those? :)
      1. Finish any remaining reflections for this year.
      2. Complete the Table of Contents.
      3. Create one slide that I could show to Theatre Dance students next year. This slide should have a lot of pictures and minimal words. I want it to be a reflection of the best parts of Theatre Dance this year.
      4. Review formatting to make sure that font, size of text, colors, etc. go together!

Only hours 2, 4, and 6: meet me in the library! 📚 Hours 3 and 7: I'll see y'all in the dance studio! 👣
